10:00 Server Administrator-> You have connected to an OpenRPG server, version '1.7.0'.
You may encounter adult conversations, concepts and material on this server. If you're under the age of consent, get out now. My arse is now officially covered... parents and watchdogs, take responsibility for your own damn kids, 'cos I sure as hell won't.
Enjoy the freedom of communication with the new OpenRPG Veav I message board. That's right, for those who haven't been taking notes, the board has changed. There is no other OpenRPG Veav server. If you see one on the server list, it is somebody who probably violated rule one and got their ass banned. OpenRPG Veav I does not condone or support piracy or intellectual property theft.
This is a friendly server. I don't much care what you do, so long as you do it in a civilized manner. This means you can discuss anything you like and say anything you like, using whatever words you choose - so long as you aren't being an asshole.

10:01 (1461) Autumn: Stuff?
10:01 (1461) Autumn: And things?
10:01 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Lo!
10:01 (1467) Marshall: Yeah, and maybe something too.
10:01 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Well, sheeeeeeit!
10:01 ** (1461) Autumn runs at Marshall and attacks him like Tigger. **
10:02 ** (1461) Autumn is hopped up on goof ball, after all. **
10:02 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Goof ball?
10:02 (1461) Autumn: She's got a caffeine addiction.
10:02 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Oh, right
10:03 (1461) Autumn: That means she's either always hyper or paranoid.
10:03 (1461) Autumn: I'd rather she not be paranoid.
10:03 (1399) Bill (enter): 10:03
10:03 (1461) Autumn: Not that that wouldn't have it's uses.
10:03 ** (1467) Marshall gets attacked **
10:03 (1461) Autumn: Maybe a little paranoid.
10:03 (1461) Autumn: Hey Bill!
10:04 (1399) Bill: Hi everybody!
10:04 (1461) Autumn: Dammit! I forgot a character.
10:04 (1461) Autumn: Well, avatar.
10:04 (1467) Marshall: crap. must find avatar
10:04 (1466) Wraith (enter): 10:04
10:04 (1399) Bill: Some people are prepared.
10:04 (1461) Autumn: Then again, the character I used for Mafia would probably work....
10:04 (1466) Nemien: Hello
10:05 (1461) Autumn: Hey!
10:05 (1399) Bill: Lo.
10:06 (1467) Marshall: Hey.
10:07 (1399) Bill: Oh, by the way, I think I messed up the calculation for the HK53 recoil. Forgot to take account of the +1 damping for the shoulder stock.
10:07 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Easy to forget
10:07 (1468) arthurtuxedo: I mess that one up all the time.
10:08 (1399) Bill: Its alright for when the stock is retracted, but...
10:08 (1467) Marshall: What man in his right mind wants a retracted stock?
10:08 (1461) Autumn: What size does the avatar need to be?
10:08 (1461) Autumn: A walrus?
10:08 (1467) Marshall: any size
10:09 (1467) Marshall: It can be redone here.
10:09 (1461) Autumn: OOoh.
10:09 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The squares are 20 by 20 pixel
10:09 (1461) Autumn: Itty bitty, in other words.
10:10 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Could be smaller. Last session of the Mafia game they were 10 x 10, I think.
10:10 (1468) arthurtuxedo: But that made it too hard to count distance.
10:10 (1466) Nemien: It says I must be a player or gm to use the minature layer

10:11 (1461) Autumn: Ah...Monica Belluci.
10:11 (1461) Autumn: She's purdy.
10:11 ** (1467) Marshall humps Autumn's leg. **
10:12 (1461) Autumn: How does it resize?
10:12 (1467) Marshall: right click > Properties
10:13 (1461) Autumn: Aww...Now she ugly.
10:13 (1461) Autumn: Pfft.
10:13 (1467) Marshall: I'd still hit it.
10:13 ** (1461) Autumn wonders what the point is when you can't even see them. **
10:13 ** (1461) Autumn laughs. **
10:13 (1461) Autumn: Of course you would.
10:13 (1461) Autumn: You're you.
10:15 ** (1461) Autumn sees the robot guys on the left and is reminded of the AT AT Kama Sutra... **
10:15 ** (1461) Autumn cries. **
10:15 (1469) John: ...
10:16 (1467) Marshall: Chair porn is almost as funny.
10:16 (1399) Tom: I'm getting a "Image refused to load or URI did not reference a valid image" error on the Re-cyborg.jpg
10:16 ** (1461) Autumn laughs. **
10:17 (1467) Marshall: What's the url?
10:17 (1468) arthurtuxedo: How's this for Nemien?
10:17 (1461) Autumn: Oooh.
10:18 ** (1467) Marshall humps Nemien's leg too. **
10:18 ** (1461) Autumn beats him off. **
10:18 (1466) Nemien: Cool. That works great.
10:18 (1461) Autumn: No...wait...
10:18 ** (1461) Autumn laughs. **
10:18 (1399) Tom: http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9G_Rq89TXxFpw8Ar.ajzbkF;_ylu=X3oDMTA4NDgyNWN0BHNlYwNwcm9m/SIG=124071h5k/EXP=1165860541/**http%3a//users.otenet.gr/%7etqihtqih/Re-cyborg.jpg , I think
10:18 (1461) Autumn: That's not what I meant.
10:19 (1467) Marshall: Could it be too long? I don't know if there's a character limit.
10:19 (1469) John: Wait, I missed the full size Nemien image. What is it?
10:19 (1467) Marshall: t-3 lady
10:19 (1461) Autumn: You snooze, you lose.
10:19 ** (1461) Autumn points and laughs. **
10:19 (1469) John: Ah, ok.
10:19 ** (1399) Tom shrugs **
10:19 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Map saved
10:19 ** (1461) Autumn promises not to draw on this one. **
10:20 (1469) John: But you will anyway
10:20 (1467) Marshall: (much)
10:20 ** (1461) Autumn shakes her head. **
10:20 (1461) Autumn: Nope.
10:22 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Let's see... character sheets look to be in order. Slight problem on Marshall's, in that Medic doesn't have concentrations, so the XP is overspent by 10.
10:22 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Or rather, underspent
10:22 (1467) Marshall: To which I say, FEH!
10:23 ** (1461) Autumn loooooves her mysteriously randomly shutting off programs...really. **
10:24 (1469) John: Those are the best
10:25 (1461) Autumn: At least I'm noticing that it only seems to be a combo of trillian/microsoft office.
10:25 (1468) arthurtuxedo: With regard to abilities, you'll have to be the one to remember that you have them, because I won't. That goes double for people who are all cybered out and thus have lots of abilities.
10:25 (1461) Autumn: If trillian is on and I open a office program, it tends to asplode.
10:25 (1468) arthurtuxedo: So if you get hit in your cybernetic arm and I start calcing damage, you have to remind me about the -1 severity, etc.
10:25 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Really? I use trillian and I don't have that problem.
10:26 ** (1467) Marshall plots **
10:26 (1466) Nemien: Ok
10:26 (1461) Autumn: Well, you probably don't have a computer as old as you are.
10:26 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Point
10:27 (1466) Nemien: With regards to severity, what happens if you get hit in your cyber arm that has -3 severity, in a *1 severity location? 1/8 damage?
10:27 (1468) arthurtuxedo: This session will probably be shortish. Just a way to introduce the characters and set the stage. I don't really know where I'm going with this campaign yet, story wise, so nothing important will happen.
10:27 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Correct.
10:27 (1461) Autumn: Yay! That's good because I don't really remember how to do this anymore.
10:27 ** (1461) Autumn laughs. **
10:28 ** (1461) Autumn has a rather lackluster short term memory. **
10:28 ** (1461) Autumn blames Corran. **
10:28 (1467) Marshall: That's right, baby. I'll teach you everything you need to know.
10:29 (1461) Autumn: You already did. ;o)
10:29 (1467) Marshall: :( It's true.
10:31 (1468) arthurtuxedo: We open at the headquarters of one of the corporations, Cyberwire Technologies. Each character has their own reason for being there in the lobby.
10:31 (1468) arthurtuxedo: * * * Campaign Start * * *
10:32 (1468) arthurtuxedo: It was a fairly normal Manhattan day, which is to say, a madhouse, but everyone here is used to it. In busy lobby of a major corporation, five strangers sit.
10:33 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (You can introduce yourselves here)
10:33 ** (1461) Autumn feels the pangs of a headache start to nip at her left temple and pulls out a small bottle and swallows down two small pills from it. **
10:34 ** (1469) John notices Autumn. "Are those caffeine pills? Think you could spare a couple? I've been up since Tuesday." **
10:34 (1461) Autumn: Sure.
10:34 (1469) John: "Thanks."
10:34 ** (1461) Autumn gives the man a smile and a couple of pills. **
10:35 (1461) Autumn: What's your name?
10:35 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Physical descriptions would be good, too)
10:35 (1469) John: "John. What's yours?"
10:35 (1461) Autumn: Autumn.
10:35 ** (1461) Autumn holds out a small, well manicured hand to John. **
10:35 ** (1467) Marshall sits quietly, waiting for the receptionist to call his name. He doesn't need this job, but he would like to think they need him, or really, his skills. He hopes he's not sweating too profusely. This is as close as he's been to two women, or any woman in a long time. **
10:36 (1461) Autumn: (( Taking from real life are we? ;o) ))
10:36 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Burned!)
10:36 (1467) Marshall: (( hat. ))
10:36 ** (1469) John is a tall man of 6'1", but thin. His hair is ash-blond, and he's well groomed. He's wearing a shirt, slacks, and sport coat, but no tie. **
10:36 (1466) Nemien: A tall woman leans agaist the conrner of the room, he two cybernetic arms crossed agaist her chest, watching everyone through the visor that sits on her head.
10:37 (1469) John: "Nice to meet you."
10:37 (1461) Autumn: (( I'm sure this has been answered before, but...Do cybernetic parts look like robot parts or are they as human looking as everything else? ))
10:37 ** (1461) Autumn thinks John is rather nice looking and continues to proffer him her winning smile. **
10:37 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (They come in both flavors. Human looking ones are more expensive)
10:38 (1461) Autumn: I assure you, the pleasure is all mine, John.
10:38 (1461) Autumn: (( So what's Nemien have? ))
10:38 (1469) John: John smiles back.
10:38 (1466) Nemien: (Visible? Just cybernetic arms. Not visible, pretty much everything.)
10:39 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (And the big honkin' visor, don't forget :) )
10:39 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Are they metallic Terminator arms, or what?)
10:39 (1461) Autumn: (( Well, I meant are they...yeah...what art said. Are they human looking or not? ))
10:40 (1467) Marshall: I, um, I tried those once and -whew- I was loopy for a month. At least it felt like a month, it was probably closer to a few days. I think I coded that loveU virus that went around, then. I don't remember much.
10:40 (1466) Nemien: (Something like that, yes. Definitly not human looking.)
10:40 ** (1461) Autumn looks over at the bumbling sounding fellow and give him a "oh, how cute...he's bumbling" type smile. **
10:41 (1461) Autumn: Yes, they can throw one for a loop.
10:41 (1461) Autumn: What's your name?
10:41 (1469) John: John laughs. "That was you? Everyone at the hospital got that damn thing. Our IT guys were pissed."
10:42 (1461) Autumn: I'm sure they were just mad that they had to work for a change.
10:42 ** (1467) Marshall looks up, surprised someone is talking to him, "Me? Oh, I'm -uh- Marshall. Marshall Thomas. I'm a cybernetic programmer" ::makes the typing motion:: **
10:42 (1461) Autumn: (( Never trust someone with two first names. ))
10:43 ** (1467) Marshall smiles sheepishly, "Yeah, sorry about that. Caffiene, huh?" **
10:43 (1469) John: (you have two first names)
10:43 (1461) Autumn: (( Yeah, I just realized that. ))
10:43 (1469) John: (lol)
10:43 (1467) Marshall: (( never trust someone who doesn't trust themself ))
10:43 (1461) Autumn: (( I wasn't born with two first names? ))
10:44 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Don't ever trust... don't ever trust the needle!)
10:44 (1469) John: (don't trust the Man, either)
10:44 ** (1461) Autumn reaches over and pats Marshall on the shoulder. **
10:44 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Name the band or the tune and you get 1,000 bonus XP)
10:44 (1469) John: (aw shit, we are the Man, aren't we?)
10:44 (1461) Autumn: No harm done.
10:45 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (And by "1,000 bonus XP", I mean "nothing")
10:45 (1469) John: (ooh, ooh, I know! Dammit)
10:45 (1461) Autumn: (( It's Queensryche, isn't it? ))
10:45 (1461) Autumn: (( Or however you spell it. ))
10:45 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (1,000 imaginary XP for you!)
10:45 (1467) Marshall: (( Poodle and the Love Muffins ))
10:45 (1461) Autumn: (( Woohoo! ))
10:45 (1506) Bill (enter): 10:45
10:45 (1461) Autumn: (( Hanging out with rock DJs as a teenager has it's perks. ))
10:45 (1467) Marshall: o_O
10:46 (1461) Autumn: (( I thought he was being quiet. ))
10:46 (1506) Bill: (( Damnit! ))
10:46 (1467) Marshall: (( I think he missed everything. Man, we can't have an orgy like that ever again. ))
10:46 (1469) John: (lol)
10:46 (1461) Autumn: (( We can't? That's sad. ))
10:46 (1461) Autumn: (( We can get you more viagra. ;o) ))
10:47 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Was wondering why Tom hadn't introduced himself yet. Not sure how much you missed, the group was sitting in the lobby of Cyberwire Technologies on a seemingly average day. Everyone's introduced themselves to the others except Tom and Nemien)
10:47 Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (1506) Tom...
10:47 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Booting '(1399) Tom' from room...
10:47 (1399) Tom (exit): 10:47
10:47 (1506) Tom: (( Died when Nik was complaining about randomly shutting down programs. ))
10:48 (1461) Autumn: (( Wow. ))
10:48 (1467) Marshall: wow
10:48 (1461) Autumn: (( You missed a bit, then. ))
10:48 (1469) John: (holy shit, so that's everything)
10:48 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Not that there was much. I think my summary covers it all)
10:48 (1469) John: (true, although he doesn't have descriptions and whatnot)
10:48 (1461) Autumn: (( Yeah, but he missed what everyone looks like and that Marshall is a bumbling goof and whatnot. ))
10:49 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (It'll all be in the chat log :) )
10:49 (1506) Tom: (( Yeah, so I don't know what to do now... ))
10:49 (1461) Autumn: (( Just say how you feel about caffeine or something, like Marshall did. ))
10:49 (1467) Marshall: (( Stay a while, and listen! Or just use me to identify your items and run off to Gheeb and sell your shit. ))
10:50 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (John's a doctor, Autumn is friendly and seemingly normal, Marshall is a cyber programmer)
10:50 (1506) Tom: (( Lets see, average day... ))
10:50 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (You can start with a physical description of your character, and maybe what he's doing in the lobby of Cyberwire Technologies today)
10:50 (1467) Marshall: (( We've secretly replaced their caffeine pills with folger's crystalmeth. Let's see if they notice... ))
10:51 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Feeeeeeeelings...)
10:51 (1466) Nemien: "Cybernetic programmer? What types of cybernetics do you code?" Nemien asks, coming over to join the conversation.
10:51 ** (1506) Tom enters. He is obviously starting to feel the effects of his age. His sandy hair is starting to show signs of receding and has a bit of a gut. He is wearing a suit and is carrying a backpack and motorcycle helmet **
10:52 (1461) Autumn: (( He's like House but chunkier. ))
10:52 ** (1467) Marshall looks up at Nemien, instantly noticing her cybernetic arms. "Well, all kinds really. The servo processors in your arms, they don't move by magic - probably because there's no such thing as magic - I help it translate neural impulses into physical movement. **
10:53 ** (1461) Autumn notices that when given a subject he's comfortable with, Marshall is considerably less bumbling. **
10:53 ** (1461) Autumn files that observation away. **
10:55 (1466) Nemien: "How does that work exactly?" Nemien asks, obiously intrested.
10:57 (1467) Marshall: Normal movement is controlled by miniscule electrical impulses that travel from the brain or spinal chord -reflexive actions usually get rerouted from there- to the shoulder, arm, hand or finger...
10:57 ** (1506) Tom looks curiously at the people sitting around in the lobby, before heading over to the receptionist **
10:58 (1467) Marshall: When part, or all -as in your case, and you have a nice pair there. Arms, I mean. Not your "pair," though those are... um, the signal from the brain stops where the natural neurons end...
10:59 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The receptionist smiles at Tom briefly and continues talking to someone on the phone, putting up a "wait a sec" finger.
10:59 ** (1506) Tom waits. **
10:59 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The receptionist hangs up. "May I help you, sir?"
11:00 ** (1466) Nemien smiles slightly, prompting him to continue. **
11:00 (1467) Marshall: When I say "miniscule electronic signals" I mean it's something a little more complicated than that. Replicating that kind of signal has taken decades of research and development, trial and error. The discreet interface between man, or woman, and machine is an intricate and delicate process.
11:00 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Marshall is real smooth. A regular Clarence Carter)
11:01 (1506) Tom: "Hi, I'm Thomas Whiting and I'm here to give a presentation to the senior managment on Quality systems and Continious Improvement."
11:02 (1467) Marshall: It takes millions of lines of code to take the signal from the brain and translate into a usuable signal for the cyberchips, which in turn produce a definable movement.
11:02 ** (1467) Marshall finally takes a breath. **
11:03 (1468) arthurtuxedo: "Ah, yes. You're nice and early. The managers should be back from their retreat any minute. Would you mind taking a seat?"
11:03 ** (1461) Autumn notices a slight discoloration of John's skin and moves to discreetly lift his shirt sleeve further to take a look at what she suspects might be skin art, but quickly draws her hand back when Marshall stops talking. **
11:03 (1506) Tom: "That'll be fine, thanks."
11:03 (1461) Autumn: You definitely know your field, Marshall.
11:03 (1469) John: John looks up.
11:03 ** (1506) Tom heads over and sits down. **
11:04 (1467) Marshall: "Yeah, uh, heh. All work and no play," he points to himself, "Dull boy."
11:04 ** (1461) Autumn gives a charming laugh. **
11:05 (1461) Autumn: I'm sure there's something going on in there.
11:05 (1467) Marshall: (( me is charmed and begins humping her leg(s) ))
11:05 (1461) Autumn: (( Quiet, you. ))
11:05 ** (1461) Autumn turns to the new arrival, noting his motorcycle helmet. **
11:06 (1461) Autumn: What are you riding?
11:06 ** (1467) Marshall looks away and finds some detail of his attache case irresistably interesting **
11:06 (1467) Marshall: (( You if you ask nicely! ))
11:06 (1506) Tom: "Just a GSX-R600"
11:07 (1461) Autumn: Ah, a crotch rocket.
11:07 ** (1461) Autumn grins. **
11:08 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (lol)
11:08 ** (1506) Tom gives an answering grin **
11:08 ** (1467) Marshall looks up at the mention of the motorcycle. "I would have rode my GPR 50 in, but, uh I don't much like the helmet hair. Not on interview day, you know. **
11:08 (1506) Tom: "Yep"
11:08 (1461) Autumn: Suzuki is a decent brand, though.
11:08 ** (1461) Autumn nods. **
11:08 (1469) John: John nods. "You know, we call those 'Donor cycles' in the ER."
11:09 ** (1466) Nemien looks blankly at this statement, as if the details of appearence are beyond her. **
11:09 (1461) Autumn: The Suzukis or the Derbis?
11:09 (1469) John: "All of em."
11:09 (1467) Marshall: I've been working on a way to interface directly with the vehicle.
11:09 (1461) Autumn: That could be interesting.
11:09 (1461) Autumn: Or dangerous.
11:09 (1461) Autumn: But a little danger never hurt anyone.
11:10 (1461) Autumn: Well, much.
11:10 (1506) Tom: "I know. Had a few friends killed on the bikes. I'm careful and good, so I've not messed up too badly yet."
11:10 (1466) Nemien: "How would you do that?"
11:10 ** (1506) Tom taps wood. **
11:10 (1469) John: John shrugs. "Just a matter of time, really. I'd never take that risk, personally."
11:11 (1506) Tom: "Life is risk. All you can do is manage it."
11:11 (1461) Autumn: That's why I prefer my Lotus. Granted, it's not much more than a motorcycle, but at least it has doors between me and out there.
11:11 (1461) Autumn: I don't have to worry about scraping my leg off.
11:11 (1467) Marshall: I don't know, not yet. The control wouldn't be like replacing an arm or a heart. Unless you're already a car or something, the learning curve would probably be steep. Unless you started with virtual training. The key is probably a downloadable hard drive in the brain.
11:12 (1469) John: "I suppose so. I never introduced myself. John Holliday." He extends his hand to Tom.
11:12 (1461) Autumn: (( Doc Holliday...that's funny. ))
11:12 (1506) Tom: "Thomas Whiting."
11:12 ** (1506) Tom shakes. **
11:12 (1461) Autumn: (( Say, is he going to have a drinking problem and consumption? ))
11:12 (1468) arthurtuxedo: A GloboSec exec strides out of the elevator and through the lobby, flanked by two combat-suited bodyguards. He looks rather concerned about the phone conversation he's having. "The bunker? How? I'll be there as quick as I can. Do what you need to." He walks out of the building.
11:12 (1467) Marshall: (( art promised me i get to beat you if you say "i'll be your huckleberrry" ))
11:13 (1469) John: "Nice to meet you. I hope I never see you in my ER."
11:13 (1461) Autumn: (( Oooh, can I say it? ))
11:13 (1467) Marshall: (( as long as you use your sexy voice ))
11:13 (1461) Autumn: (( :sexy voice: I'll be your Huckleberry. :sexy voice end: ))
11:13 (1469) John: (John stands up. "I'm your huckleberry.")
11:14 (1506) Tom: "Nice to meet you to. And I'll hope that I'll never see the inside of your ER too."
11:14 (1461) Autumn: (( You said it wrong. ))
11:14 (1467) Marshall: (( he gets beaten anyway ))
11:14 ** (1461) Autumn contemplates making a joke about John getting to see the inside of her ER, but decides it's better if she doesn't. **
11:14 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Actually I think it is "I'm your Huckleberry")
11:14 (1469) John: (that's the way he said it in the movie)
11:14 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (hehe)
11:14 (1461) Autumn: (( Really? ))
11:14 (1469) John: (pretty sure)
11:15 (1467) Marshall: [1d10+5] -> [9,5] = (14)
11:16 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Anybody going to say anything else?)
11:16 (1469) John: (nope)
11:16 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Or should we cue a Plot Occurance (tm)?)
11:16 ** (1467) Marshall stops talking after the executive walks out of the lobby. He opens his laptop and begins typing away at the keys. [Bad dice format] - [hacking cell network to record call: [1d10+19] ] **
11:17 ** (1467) Marshall stops talking after the executive walks out of the lobby. He opens his laptop and begins typing away at the keys. hacking cell network to record call: [1d10+19] -> [9,19] = (28) **
11:17 (1506) Tom: (( Not really ))
11:17 (1461) Autumn: (( I'm not going to say anything. ))
11:17 (1467) Marshall: (( I'm done talking. ))
11:18 (1466) Nemien: (No)
11:18 (1468) arthurtuxedo: There are two layers of the corporate cell phone network: the secure one, and the one with laughable security. Presumably because he's in a pinch, this guy's using the latter. Marshall gets in almost right away.
11:18 (1467) Marshall: (record for playback later)
11:18 (1469) John: (chump)
11:19 (1467) Marshall: (( cue plot occurance ))
11:20 ** (1467) Marshall chuckles to himself as he closes the lid on the laptop. **
11:20 ** (1506) Tom raises an eyebrow "You see something amusing? Care to share?" **
11:21 ** (1467) Marshall shakes his head no. **
11:21 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Suddenly a piercing alarm goes off, echoed by several distant ones. The receptionist stands up almost immediately, reverting to her training. Over the loudspeaker, she says. "This is a Level 5 city-wide emergency. Remain calm. Exit the building in an orderly fashion and return to your homes to await instruction. All active and reserve military personnel must report to the nearest Readiness Station." She repeats this several times. Predictably, people do not remain calm and start to jostle and push. The lobby was fairly empty, but it quickly begins to fill up with people trying to get out first.
11:21 (1506) Tom: "Oh well..."
11:22 ** (1506) Tom stands up. **
11:22 (1467) Marshall: Level 5? What does that mean?
11:22 ** (1461) Autumn contemplates waiting until the rats bail before getting trampled underfoot. **
11:22 (1469) John: John attempts to direct traffic.
11:22 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Anyone with Education AT of 10 or more will know that Level 5 is the worst kind.)
11:23 (1467) Marshall: (amending statement)
11:23 (1461) Autumn: (( I only have 6 so I am apparently not in the know. ))
11:23 ** (1461) Autumn assumes it's not good, either way. **
11:23 ** (1467) Marshall 's face goes pale immediately. "That can't be right... She did say level 5, right? Tell me I didn't hear that right, she said level hive or ..." **
11:24 (1461) Autumn: No, she said five.
11:24 (1466) Nemien: Nemien stands up, and beings looking around for threats. She wishes they would be more specific.
11:24 (1461) Autumn: Why? What's that?
11:24 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (AT is the skill level + aptitude, so Autumn's is actually 14)
11:24 (1467) Marshall: Crap. We have to go. Go now.
11:24 (1506) Tom: "Deep shit, I'd assume."
11:24 (1461) Autumn: (( Ha...So what is it? Autumn may know, but I sure don't. ))
11:24 (1467) Marshall: Jesus is coming back, it's the apocalypse, godzilla is attacking and your mother in law is in town. That's how bad.
11:25 (1506) Tom: "Just give me a moment, I wanna get my leathers on."
11:25 (1461) Autumn: Well, then I suggest we all go somewhere considerably more secure.
11:25 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (That about sums it up. All the gangs uniting and attacking the corporate district would be level 5, a hail of ICBMs incoming would also qualify)
11:25 (1467) Marshall: ((nearest fallout shelter?))
11:26 (1461) Autumn: (( Is there a fallout shelter? ))
11:26 ** (1506) Tom unselfconsciously removes his suit trousers and jacket before pulling on his leathers. **
11:26 ** (1461) Autumn thinks this isn't really the time to start worrying about wardrobe. **
11:26 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (No fallout shelters. Not necessary since all the nukes were used in WW 3 and all the nuclear plants were destroyed so there's no way to make more. Well, no easy way.)
11:27 (1506) Tom: (( road rash sucks, I'd guess. ))
11:27 (1461) Autumn: (( Does one of us have a safe-haven type place by chance? ))
11:28 ** (1467) Marshall grabs his stuff and bolts for the door. He isn't sure where he's going to go, I mean, it's a level 5 for crying out loud. Nowhere is really safe. **
11:28 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (You all have apartments, let's decide that Marshall's is closest)
11:28 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Because he's the only one who has a vehicle to retrieve, everyone else's is right outside)
11:28 ** (1461) Autumn follows Marshall who seems to have a plan, grabbing John by the arm on her way out. **
11:28 (1461) Autumn: Come on, we have to get out of here.
11:28 (1461) Autumn: They'll figure their own way.
11:29 (1469) John: John is led more or less against his will to help the herd.
11:29 (1467) Marshall: I'm only a couple of blocks from here, I guess that'll have to be good enough. Um, I don't have much in the way of entertainment, or food, or, well, space...
11:29 ** (1506) Tom tags along. Lead, follow or get out of the way. **
11:29 (1461) Autumn: It doesn't matter. Just lead the way!
11:29 ** (1466) Nemien follows the others, as she has little idea what is going on, and they seem to. **
11:29 (1506) Tom: "It'll do for now."
11:29 (1506) Tom: "Got transport?"
11:29 ** (1467) Marshall leads the group to his place. (w00t, orgy!) **
11:30 (1461) Autumn: (( Somehow, I doubt being on the road is a good idea right now. ))
11:30 (1467) Marshall: Not here, but it's only a few blocks.
11:30 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (This group's transportation is fairly limited. 2 motorcycles, 1 2-seater)
11:30 (1461) Autumn: (( Techincally fits six. ))
11:31 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Right)
11:31 (1467) Marshall: (( ha ha ha! yeah, right. six very small people. who can fit into grocery bags. ))
11:31 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The group manages to jostle through the crowd and get through the exit. Being already in the lobby helps to avoid the big trample-happy crowd.
11:31 (1461) Autumn: (( We can have terminator girl hold on to the roof of my car. It's in her blood! ;o) ))
11:32 (1466) Nemien: (:))
11:32 (1467) Marshall: Too bad, with the -whatever is happening- you can't get your parking validated now.
11:32 ** (1461) Autumn uses the fact John is bigger than her to help her not get her small frame trampled as they run. **
11:33 (1461) Autumn: (( Like she really cares if something happens to him. ;o) ))
11:33 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Autumn's Elise and Tom's GSX are within sight. People are starting to run the streets willy nilly in panic as the alarms go off in every building. In the sky, there are a large number of smoke streaks. The massive lasers in the defense grid come online and start firing into the sky at a frantic pace. The streaks get closer, a black cloud of them.
11:33 (1467) Marshall: Notgoodnotgoodnotgoodnotgood
11:34 (1461) Autumn: (( So are we taking vehicles or running? ))
11:34 (1506) Tom: "Well, this brings back memories..." Tom remarks as he heads over to his bike.
11:34 (1467) Marshall: (( I'm running, it's only a few blocks ))
11:34 (1466) Nemien: (I would vote running)
11:34 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (I assume that those with vehicles take them, those without run. Travel time should be the same, since it's only 2 blocks)
11:34 (1461) Autumn: (( All righty. ))
11:34 (1469) John: (Run, Forrest, Run!)
11:34 (1506) Tom: (( superb. ))
11:35 ** (1461) Autumn sees her car, but also sees traffic is backed up with terrified motorists. **
11:35 (1468) arthurtuxedo: As the black streaks approach, it's clear that they are missiles and shells. Most are shot down, but a few get through. The top floor of a building down the street is hit by a missile, sending glass shards down onto the street below.
11:35 ** (1461) Autumn elects to run. **
11:35 ** (1461) Autumn can always get a new car. **
11:36 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Traffic's not blocked up yet, people haven't had time to leave their buildings yet)
11:36 ** (1506) Tom mounts his bike and heads after the runners. **
11:36 (1461) Autumn: (( ))
11:36 (1461) Autumn: (( Oh. ))
11:36 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (It's been less than a minute since the alarms went off)
11:36 (1461) Autumn: (( Well, retract that, then. ))
11:37 ** (1461) Autumn hops in her car and quickly starts it, following after Marshall who is running down the sidewalk. **
11:37 ** (1461) Autumn made John get in the passenger seat, too, so he wouldn't be inclined to stop and help people. **
11:38 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The group gets to Marshall's building with its convenient underground parking. A few people have already started hiding here. Autumn's Elise and Tom's GSX pull up next to Marshall's electric motorcycle.
11:38 ** (1461) Autumn quickly jumps out of her car after parking it and heads to Marshall's. **
11:38 (1467) Marshall: [1d10] -> [7] = (7)
11:38 (1469) John: John follows.
11:39 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Distant and alarmingly near explosions can be heard, as well as panic on the streets above.
11:39 (1467) Marshall: Seventh floor!
11:39 (1467) Marshall: (( or we could just cower down here ))
11:39 ** (1466) Nemien continues following Marhall. **
11:39 ** (1506) Tom secures his bike and follows at a sprint. **
11:39 (1461) Autumn: (( I don't want to be in the basement of a building that's collapsing. ))
11:39 (1506) Tom: "I'm too old for this shit."
11:39 (1461) Autumn: (( Or maybe I do...I don't remember how that works. ))
11:41 ** (1467) Marshall stops at the elevator. He presses the button, then decides being trapped in the elevator doesn't seem appealing and heads for the stairs. **
11:42 (1468) arthurtuxedo: A man comes running into the basement. "It's not safe here. They've issued a new alert, we all need to get ourselves to the Readiness Station."
11:42 (1461) Autumn: (( I just had a Ghostbusters flashback with the running up the stairs. ))
11:42 (1506) Tom: "Ah, fuck."
11:42 (1469) John: (It's the Stay Puft Marshmallow man.)
11:42 (1468) arthurtuxedo: ("Let me know when we reach 37, I'm gonna throw up.")
11:42 ** (1467) Marshall stops in his tracks. Great. **
11:42 (1467) Marshall: (( assuming I know where that is? ))
11:43 (1461) Autumn: (( Or someone does, anyway? ))
11:43 (1466) Nemien: Nemien curses that they couldn't have said this before.
11:43 (1468) arthurtuxedo: "They say bring any guns, ammunition, and supplies you can get your hands on."
11:43 ** (1467) Marshall turns and runs back down the stairs and jumps on his electrocycle. **
11:43 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (Assuming that no one decides not to go...)
11:43 ** (1461) Autumn heads back to her car, dragging John with her. **
11:44 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The group quickly swings by their places to get their guns and other emergency-relevant belongings before heading to the Readiness Station.
11:44 (1469) John: John gets dragged.
11:44 (1467) Marshall: (( w00t for fast forward! ))
11:44 (1461) Autumn: (( Montage! ))
11:45 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The scene here is a madhouse, with civilians streaming in to the makeshift shelter as military personnel stream out on foot and in vehicles.
11:45 (1461) Autumn: (( Oooh, military. Any of them cute? ))
11:45 (1461) Autumn: (( Can I be bad and taken into custody? ;o) ))
11:46 (1461) Autumn: (( Actually, what the hell is a Readiness Station? ))
11:46 (1468) arthurtuxedo: The group gets into a holding room, where people are sorted and it is determined whether they are simply civilians or whether they have useful skills.
11:47 (1468) arthurtuxedo: (It's a military base / emergency shelter)
11:47 (1506) Tom: (( Helicopter pilot applies, methinks. ))
11:47 (1461) Autumn: (( Corporate Spy probably does too, not that I can say I'm a corporate spy. *laughs* ))
11:47 (1466) Nemien: (I definitly belong to the non-civilian one.)
11:48 (1467) Marshall: (( no habla englis ))
11:48 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Though they do not know it yet, the group will soon find themselves working together in more trouble than they could imagine.
11:48 (1468) arthurtuxedo: * * * End Session 1 * * *
11:48 (1467) Marshall: w00t
11:48 (1467) Marshall: or not
11:48 (1461) Autumn: Woohoo!
11:48 (1467) Marshall: I don't know yet
11:48 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Don't want to go too far out on a limb and start making up story off the cuff.
11:49 (1466) Nemien: Fun!
11:49 (1468) arthurtuxedo: So we'll stop here
11:49 (1461) Autumn: All righty.
11:49 (1461) Autumn: Makes sense.
11:49 (1468) arthurtuxedo: 10 XP, Running total = 10 (obviously)
11:49 (1469) John: woot, XP!
11:49 (1467) Marshall: credits, my brothe
11:49 (1467) Marshall: r
11:50 (1468) arthurtuxedo: I'll see about getting a cheat sheet together before next session
11:50 (1461) Autumn: Anh suggestions as to what might be useful to have next session?
11:50 (1461) Autumn: Err..
11:50 (1461) Autumn: ANY
11:51 (1467) Marshall: fishnet pantyhose, a bottle of dom, a hot tub big enough for six...
11:51 (1461) Nikoda: Oooh.
11:51 (1461) Nikoda: I was thinking more along how we had issues with Spot in Heretics.
11:51 (1469) John: And a videocamera.
11:51 (1467) Marshall: I've already got that.
11:52 (1467) Marshall: 8D
11:52 (1506) Bill: me hopes perfect vision and a spot AT of 14 is gonna be good enough.
11:53 (1461) Nikoda: You'd think so.
11:53 (1467) Marshall: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you.
11:53 (1461) Nikoda: Yes.
11:54 (1461) Nikoda: But, I like to think lots of things.
11:54 (1468) arthurtuxedo: This group seems to have all the bases covered. Finally have a doctor, for one.
11:54 (1469) John: woot!
11:54 (1461) Nikoda: Woohoo!
11:54 (1467) Marshall: Lucky for you there's a) no magic; b) no invisi-armor (well, I haven't invented it yet)
11:54 (1466) Nemien: Yeah
11:54 (1461) Nikoda: If you're wearing invisi-armor can you still get arrested for indecent exposure?
11:54 (1467) Marshall: and no one has super powers allowing them to be invisible and intangible
11:54 (1461) Nikoda: Technically, you're not naked.
11:55 (1466) Nemien: You can become near invisible in this setting though, or at least incredibly hard to see.
11:56 (1467) Marshall: dammit, forgot about camo-armor
11:56 (1461) Nikoda: You're really really blurry.
11:56 ** (1461) Nikoda nods. **
11:56 (1467) Marshall: Or drunk, it's kinda the same.
11:56 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Haha, owned!
11:57 (1468) arthurtuxedo: I think we'll give this one another session before I start making plans for HPCD, seeing as how I still have to figure out some kind of storyline.
11:57 (1469) John: No rush
11:57 (1461) Nikoda: Nope.
11:57 (1467) Marshall: word
11:57 ** (1461) Nikoda wonders who she can get to make her a character for that setting. **
11:57 ** (1461) Nikoda laughs. **
11:58 (1467) Marshall: Well, I might, you know I'm cheap. And easy.
11:58 (1461) Nikoda: You are.
11:58 (1461) Nikoda: But, you're sexy so it's all right.
11:58 (1468) arthurtuxedo: I'm still amazed about Nemien's gun. After thinking about it for a while, I suppose it's possible to make an automatic rifle that fires .338 Lapua with manageable recoil, but it's so far away from any gun that's been made in real life.
11:58 (1469) Gerard Paloma: That's insane.
11:58 (1461) Nikoda: Well, good thing this is fiction.
11:59 (1461) Nikoda: In fiction really cool crap like that can happen.
11:59 (1506) Bill: I wanna see that gun...
11:59 (1466) Nemien: I know nothing about guns...
11:59 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Integrally suppressed, too.
11:59 (1461) Nikoda: They don't kill people. People with them kill people.
11:59 (1461) Nikoda: And puppies.
12:00 (1468) arthurtuxedo: You ever played Counterstrike?
12:00 (1506) Bill: Oh my!
12:00 (1461) Nikoda: Puppies with guns kill people.
12:00 (1466) Nemien: Me? No.
12:00 (1461) Nikoda: Or at least shoot their hands off.
12:00 ** (1461) Nikoda hisses at Counterstrike. **
12:00 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Hmm. Well, the big magnum sniper rifle in that game shoots .338 Lapua
12:00 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Teenagers with video games kill people, goddammit, don't you know that?
12:01 (1461) Nikoda: Only poor teenagers. In the ghetto.
12:01 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Oh no, even surburban teenagers become deadly killing machines when they play videogames.
12:01 (1467) Marshall: why do you hate america?
12:01 (1461) Nikoda: Not according to that one congressman.
12:01 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Anyway, like I say, it would be possible if it weighed like 30 pounds and had some custom recoil-reducing mechanism, but it just surprised me to see a fully auto rifle in that caliber.
12:02 (1467) Marshall: was it so sweet you wanted to crap your pants?
12:02 (1461) Nikoda: Boom boom.
12:02 (1468) arthurtuxedo: If someone managed to make a manageable auto rifle in .50 BMG, that's when I'd start questioning the build-a-gun system.
12:03 (1461) Nikoda: Oooh.
12:03 (1461) Nikoda: Well, if you're cybernetically enhanced, wouldn't that make it possible?
12:03 (1461) Nikoda: Your Shoulder of Steel could take the recoil or whatever.
12:04 (1466) Nemien: I thought about that, but you would have to make it a cannon sized gun, to have some accuracy,
12:04 (1467) Marshall: ooooh. 50bmg auto repeater...
12:04 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Yeah, for single shots, but not on full auto
12:04 (1467) Marshall: I think you'd have to cheat and make yourself the gun.
12:04 (1461) Nikoda: Put some shock absorbing material in the stock?
12:05 (1468) arthurtuxedo: It would be like one person trying to control a fire hose that's not tied down to anything. Even if you were strong enough, the water would be all over the place.
12:05 (1461) Nikoda: Make it out of temperpedic foam.
12:05 ** (1461) Nikoda laughs. **
12:05 (1461) Nikoda: Well, isn't that why you aim machine guns from the hip and do a low, slow back and forth while holding the gun down or some crap?
12:05 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Well, as interesting as this is, I've got stuff that needs doing that's not going to do itself. See you guys later.
12:05 (1461) Nikoda: Bye!
12:06 (1466) Nemien: Bye
12:06 (1506) Bill: Bye.
12:06 (1469) Gerard Paloma: Mine is an evil laugh
12:06 (1469) Gerard Paloma (exit): 12:06
12:06 (1467) Marshall: wurd
12:06 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Well, if you did all those things, you could manage to make a rifle in .338 Lapua, which is what Nemien did, but not in .50 BMG. That's what they use for anti-vehicle work. In WW2 they used that caliber to shoot down planes.
12:06 (1461) Nikoda: Yeah, I know.
12:06 (1461) Nikoda: I'm just being hopeful.
12:06 ** (1461) Nikoda laughs. **
12:07 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Takes 4 people to operate a .50 cal machine gun. So if someone managed to make it rifle sized and still usable, I'd have to rewrite the build-a-gun system, because it should be way out of the realm of possibility.
12:07 (1468) arthurtuxedo: But I don't think it's possible, so I'm just blabbering.
12:07 (1466) Nemien: Well, if you took the gun I made, and hade huge recoil accomadation, it would have the same penalties as this one.
12:08 (1466) Nemien: Sorry, 1 worse kick, so 4 kich.
12:08 (1466) Nemien: *kick
12:09 (1468) arthurtuxedo: 4 is a lot, though. -2 single, -10 auto.
12:09 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Would be useful in single shots only, which isn't too bad.
12:09 (1468) arthurtuxedo: Anyway, good session. See you all next week!
12:09 (1461) Nikoda: Woohoo!
12:10 (1466) Nemien: Same
12:10 ** (1461) Nikoda waves and departs. **
12:10 (1461) Nikoda: If sex is a pain in the ass, you're doing it wrong.
12:10 (1461) Nikoda (exit): 12:10
