10:01 (1654) Natrix: they scream "OH GOD ZE ARROWS!"
10:02 (1645) Mace: A part of me thinks I should defend the French because I'm 2/3 French, but when my family has visited over there, they treat us like shit, so..
10:03 (1654) Natrix: the english were soooo much cooler in the middle ages
10:03 (1654) Natrix: they were even relatively nice to their jews
10:03 (1653) gerardpaloma: Because you're a filthy American. Even though French people don't wash their ass.
10:03 (1645) Mace: Or shave.
10:03 (1654) Natrix: (by relatively nice, I mean that they didnt butcher entire jewish parts of town)
10:03 (1645) Mace: And they all smoke like chimneys.
10:03 (1645) Mace: The stench!
10:04 (1654) Natrix: (fucking french, even collaborated the most with the nazis to cmmit the holocaust)
10:04 (1653) gerardpaloma: Indeed. Cigarette smoke and ass? Not a good combination.
10:04 (1645) Mace: No, not really.
10:04 (1654) Natrix: indeed
10:04 (1645) Mace: I think that's why most of my family came over here.
10:04 (1653) gerardpaloma: Dammit, where the hell is Bill?
10:04 (1613) Bill (enter): 10:04
10:04 (1653) gerardpaloma: woot!
10:04 (1645) Mace: Right there.
10:04 (1654) Natrix: speak of the devil
10:05 ** (1654) Natrix bites Bill **
10:05 (1645) Mace: Poor Bill.
10:05 (1645) Mace: He's going to get an infection.
10:05 ** (1613) Zeke scratches back! **
10:05 (1645) Mace: All his skin will fall off.
10:05 (1654) Natrix: yep, and infection of TEH GAY!!!!
10:05 (1654) Natrix: and leprosy
10:05 ** (1645) Mace laughs. **
10:06 (1653) Tusken: Oh noes, teh homersexual disease!
10:06 (1645) Mace: Of course, if I caught it, I'd just be sexy.
10:06 (1654) Natrix: I'll show you homosexual disease *smoochy smoochy*
10:06 (1653) Tusken: mmm, lesbians...
10:07 (1653) Tusken: Oh noes, I'm infected!

10:07 (1653) Tusken: Fuck! Even when I'm dead I get defiled.
10:07 (1645) Mace: It's fun?
10:07 (1654) Natrix: yes
10:07 (1645) Mace: It's just you're so sexy.
10:07 (1654) Natrix: yes it is
10:08 (1654) Natrix: *turns into a giant gay necrophiliac duck*
10:08 ** (1645) Mace laughs. **
10:08 (1653) Tusken: Well, as fun as this is, I think everybody's here so we should get this show on the road.
10:08 (1645) Mace: I played a game once called Dink Smallwood where you had to turn into a duck and mate with another duck to progress through one level.
10:08 (1654) Natrix: hold on, lets see if I can find the article on them...
10:08 ** (1653) Tusken peers at Art. **
10:09 (1654) Natrix: http://education.guardian.co.uk/higher/research/improbable/story/0,,1432998,00.html
10:09 ** (1645) Mace sends art the Playboy from 1983 with naked Madonna in it that she found. **
10:09 (1654) Natrix: everyone thinks they are so cute... but they are really a bunch of webbed-foot rapists
10:09 (1645) Mace: You know it's good with "improbable" in the link.
10:10 (1645) Mace: Well, they're not the brightest.
10:10 (1613) Zeke: I'm getting a 400 error on the link.
10:10 (1645) Mace: I didn't.
10:10 (1645) Mace: You're odd.
10:10 (1613) Zeke: Hmm. Probably.
10:11 (1654) Natrix: hehehe
10:11 (1654) Natrix: *quackquackquackquackquack*
10:11 (1645) Mace: Yeah, I've seen ducks attack other ducks like that.
10:12 (1645) Mace: Hooray for living on the water.
10:12 Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (1613) Zeke...
10:12 (1654) Natrix: hehehehe
10:12 (1654) Natrix: so cute... and so evil
10:13 (1645) Mace: And tasty when properly prepared.
10:13 (1654) Natrix: indeed
10:13 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Hmm. Looks like Natrix' image is broken
10:13 (1613) Zeke: Yep.
10:13 (1654) Natrix: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
10:13 (1645) Mace: It was broken lasttime too.
10:14 (1654) Natrix: very well, I will find a new one...
10:14 ** (1645) Mace figures out how to use a spacebar. **
10:14 (1613) Zeke: Image refused to load or URI did not reference a valid image:http://images.google.com/url?q=http://ssu-maa.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/yuan-ti.jpg.w180h187.jpg
10:14 (1613) Zeke: I got an error message!
10:16 (1654) Natrix: it works now apparantly
10:16 (1646) arthurtuxedo: I replaced with Bill's link
10:16 (1654) Natrix: excellent
10:17 (1613) Zeke: Weird. That link wasn't supposed to work...
10:17 (1646) arthurtuxedo: It needed doctoring
10:17 (1637) Silva: Um, why did my image just shrink?
10:18 (1646) arthurtuxedo: I'm shrinking the map scale. More squares
10:19 (1613) Zeke: Why do I have a bad feeling about this?
10:19 (1654) Natrix: eeeeeeep
10:19 (1645) Mace: Armies are fun!
10:19 (1654) Natrix: ok, that scared me for a sec
10:20 (1646) arthurtuxedo: There. Much better. Now we won't always be using multi-to-one scales
10:21 (1654) Natrix: praise be to lord dagon!
10:21 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Got the idea to do this when we did the last session of Mafia with the uber-tiny squares and it still worked out pretty well.
10:23 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Okay. Files are open, breakfast is eaten, let me just get some water and then we can start
10:24 (1654) Natrix: As I told Art, I will probably be gone for around half an hour at some point, as my neighbor is really cute and wants to go to breakfast, however the cafe doesnt open until 10... so
10:25 (1645) Mace: That's right. AZ doesn't believe in day light savings.
10:25 (1654) Natrix: yep
10:25 (1654) Natrix: we're craaaaaazy
10:25 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Doesn't DST end today?
10:25 (1645) Mace: Next weekend.
10:25 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Ah.
10:25 (1645) Mace: Oct 29
10:26 (1653) Tusken: Dammit, we could have screwed with his head.
10:26 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Was looking forward to sleeping in an hour tomorrow morning
10:26 ** (1645) Mace laughs. **
10:26 (1645) Mace: I didn't think about that.
10:26 (1654) Natrix: and my timezone stays the same
10:26 (1654) Natrix: no clock changes
10:26 (1646) arthurtuxedo: I can't wait. I hate DST. Even months later I never get completely used to it.
10:27 (1653) Tusken: Oh, and when it does change, it changes at like 2 am on Sunday morning, not Monday morning.
10:27 (1645) Mace: Ah...confusing.
10:28 (1645) Mace: Thankfully, Shini understands it.
10:28 ** (1645) Mace laughs. **
10:28 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Sweet. Last we left off, the group had created the diversion and successfully escaped, and where preparing to meet with Talakis.
10:28 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Everyone ready?
10:28 (1653) Tusken: (y)
10:28 (1645) Mace: Hai!
10:29 (1613) Zeke: Da
10:29 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Well, that's more than 50% :)
10:29 (1646) arthurtuxedo: * * * Session 9 Begin * * *
10:29 (1637) Silva: Yes/
10:30 (1654) Natrix: (bob dole)
10:30 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The last member of the group arrives at the seemingly unoccupied house in one of the city's shadier parts. No sign of Talakis yet. There's a table and some chairs, but they looked rotted, and it's unclear whether they would support any weight.
10:31 (1654) Natrix: Natrix looks around suspiciously
10:31 ** (1645) Mace stands around. **
10:31 (1654) Natrix: [1d10+5] -> [9,5] = (14)
10:31 ** (1613) Zeke nudges one of the chairs **
10:32 (1653) Tusken: Tusken sits in one of the chairs.
10:32 (1654) Natrix: (and Natrix listens to Ein Deutches Requiem)
10:32 (1637) Silva: Silva starts setting up her spells again.
10:32 ** (1645) Mace ((is listening to Praire Home Companion on NPR.)) **
10:32 (1654) Natrix: "You know you shine like lighthouse to anyone with a detect magic spell active right?"
10:33 (1637) Silva: "No, I don't."
10:33 ** (1645) Mace chuckles. **
10:33 ** (1653) Tusken bows his head in prayer. **
10:34 (1654) Natrix: "You dont know, or you dont show up like fireflies on a moonlit night?"
10:35 (1637) Silva: "I can make my spells so they don't show up to those detecting them."
10:35 (1654) Natrix: "ah"
10:35 (1654) Natrix: "very well then"
10:36 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Footsteps approach from outisde.
10:36 ** (1613) Zeke readys himself for trouble **
10:37 ** (1653) Tusken finishes his prayer, and raises his head. **
10:37 (1613) Zeke: "Is this them? Are they on time?"
10:37 ** (1645) Mace gets ready for anything. **
10:37 (1637) Silva: Silva prepares for trouble, moving away from the door.
10:38 (1654) Natrix: Natrix also clears the door
10:38 (1646) arthurtuxedo: There is one set of steps, accompanied by the clinking of mail armor.
10:39 ** (1613) Zeke waits quietly **
10:39 (1645) Mace: (( Is there a window to look out? ))
10:39 ** (1653) Tusken walks over to open the door. **
10:39 (1645) Mace: (( Nevermind. ))
10:39 (1653) Tusken: (buncha pansies)
10:40 ** (1645) Mace slides behind the door to wait. **
10:40 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Tusken opens the door to find a man in standard issue armor with a bright Church insignia. He carries a short sword, but it is not drawn.
10:41 (1653) Tusken: "Greetings."
10:41 (1613) Zeke: (( Joy! ))
10:41 (1654) Natrix: (good evening officer)
10:41 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Wait! I come in peace!" he shouts quickly, expecting violence. Surprised by the tame welcome, he quickly composes himself.
10:42 (1645) Mace: (( I come in peace! Take me to your leader! ))
10:42 (1646) arthurtuxedo: He is a young man, probably no more than 20 years of age, and doesn't look like he particularly wants to be here.
10:42 (1613) Zeke: "Someone's jumpy..." Zeke mutters
10:42 (1645) Mace: (( Art is doing a cameo. ;o) ))
10:42 (1654) Natrix: "State your business then" said the Serpentis in the corner
10:42 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (Bah!)
10:42 (1653) Tusken: "Yes, how may we help you?"
10:43 (1645) Mace: (( Would you like to buy some bear scout cookies? ))
10:43 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "I have information. Grave information. May I come in?"
10:43 ** (1654) Natrix nods **
10:43 (1637) Silva: Silva wonders about reading his mind, to see if what he says is true.
10:43 (1653) Tusken: "Please."
10:43 (1613) Zeke: (( Come inside! we don't bite... much. ))
10:45 (1646) arthurtuxedo: He shuffles in and shuts the door. "You know who I am, and we know who you are, so we can skip the introductions. Suffice to say that neither the Gem or Talakis are what you think."
10:46 (1613) Zeke: "Sorry, but I don't" Zeke speaks up.
10:46 (1654) Natrix: "Oh? Please, elaborate"
10:46 (1645) Mace: (( Mace can do that lie detector thing if it's needed... ))
10:48 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "The Gem is itself a powerful magical item capable of rendering a group of people invisible and inaudible, this is true. But it is also more than that. We're researching further, but we believe that the Gem is only part of a greater item, one that would give its wielder extreme powers over life and death. We think this is what Talakis wants, and not for the sake of any revolution."
10:49 (1654) Natrix: "Do you have proof of this? We should trust you...why exactly?"
10:49 (1654) Natrix: "
10:50 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Just keep your eyes open about Talakis. Nose around. And be especially wary if he asks you to steal any other items."
10:51 (1645) Mace: (( We'll just keep them for our own use, thanks. ))
10:51 (1613) Zeke: "And Talakis is trustworthy? Do we know all that much about him?"
10:51 (1613) Zeke: "Those questions worry me."
10:52 (1645) Mace: In this venue, it's hard to tell which side is truthful.
10:52 (1654) Natrix: "Indeed"
10:52 (1613) Zeke: "If either is."
10:52 (1645) Mace: I imagine everyone has their own agenda, each one as noble as the other.
10:52 (1654) Natrix: "However, I suppose if he meant us harm, he would have come with troops"
10:52 (1653) Tusken: "If this is indeed true, how do we contact you? Or will you contact us again?"
10:53 (1654) Natrix: "Of course, that is the question, why didnt you come with troops? SUrely you could stop Talakis from doing more harm if the people he uses are neutralized?"
10:53 (1637) Silva: Silva quitely laughs to herself as Mace talks about noble agendas. No-one is noble, they all do things for thier own selfish gain.
10:55 (1613) Zeke: (( 'Each one as noble as the other.' That really sounds as if Mace as a bit of cynacism about this whole revolutionary movement... ))
10:56 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "We debated that option. But if we eliminated you, he would just find others. If you wish to contact me, just drop a message to this address." He scribbles something down.
10:56 (1645) Mace: (( Or perhaps Mace recognizes that everyone feels their own views are the most noble views, whether they are or not. ))
10:57 (1654) Natrix: "fair enough. I am smart enough to not blindly trust the man. His tongue is, after all, as forked as my own"
10:57 (1654) Natrix: As if to illustrate the point,Natrix's tongue flicks out, tasting the air
10:57 (1613) Zeke: (( There isn't a hell of a lot of room for noblilty in the view 'I don't wanna die!' ))
10:58 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Just then, an axe materializes out of seemingly thin air, followed by a large body with skin of the deepest copper hue. The Church man doesn't even have a chance to react as the axe cleaves through the back of his neck with great precision. His head rolls off his shoulders onto the floor.
10:58 (1645) Mace: (( Woohoo! ))
10:58 ** (1613) Zeke goes for his knives **
10:58 (1637) Silva: Silva begins casting.
10:58 ** (1645) Mace thinks this is probably bad. **
10:58 ** (1645) Mace draws his sword. **
10:59 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Behind the axe-wielding hobgoblin appears Talakis, also out of thin air, holding a glowing crystal. He holds his hand up. "Peace, my friends. It is only I."
10:59 ** (1653) Tusken stands still. **
10:59 ** (1645) Mace sheaths his sword. **
10:59 (1654) Natrix: Natrix curses under his breath
11:00 (1613) Zeke: "People dieing messily infront of me tends to make me jumpy."
11:00 ** (1613) Zeke leaves the knives sheathed **
11:00 (1637) Silva: Silva stops casting, for now.
11:00 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Beware of Church followers, for they speak only half-truths and lies."
11:00 (1645) Mace: As they are taught.
11:01 (1654) Natrix: "Indeed. So, how goes it? I hope you enjoyed the riot"
11:01 (1653) Tusken: "Which half is true and which half is not?"
11:02 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "This one was full of the former. Yes, the Gem is only part of a greater item. I am still not completely sure of its true characteristics, but be assured that it will be used to overthrow the rotting theocracy foisted upon this city."
11:02 (1613) Zeke: "The deities alone know."
11:02 (1645) Mace: (( Isn't Talakis a religious leader of a sort? ))
11:02 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (He's almost like a religious leader, but not. Definitely a Cult of Personality type)
11:02 ** (1654) Natrix looks over at Tusken **
11:03 (1637) Silva: Silva relaxes slightly, fairly sure he would not be explaining this to her if he was about to attack.
11:03 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The hobgoblin cleans the blood off of his wicked axe as Talakis speaks.
11:03 (1654) Natrix: "THen I take it you were listening?"
11:04 (1645) Mace: (( When I saw wicked axe, I thought Monty Python. "Wicked, wicked axe. Just wicked!" ))
11:04 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "For a time. But do not be alarmed. I do not wish for sheep-like followers in my organization. It is good that you do not yet trust me with your lives."
11:05 (1654) Natrix: "Good"
11:05 (1613) Zeke: (( Ware flattery. ))
11:05 ** (1645) Mace figures Talakis probably doesn't trust them that much, either. **
11:05 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "However, this Church apprentice would not have gone into the lion's den without a contingency plan." Talakis begins to rummage in the dead man's pockets.
11:06 (1613) Zeke: "Or orders from the top. He may well have been considered expendable."
11:06 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The hobgoblin glowers at the group. Hobgoblins are not known for their social graces, but this one seems especially unpleasant.
11:06 (1645) Mace: (( No wonder I'm freezing. It's only 53. Brrr. ))
11:06 (1653) Tusken: (holy shit)
11:06 (1613) Zeke: "A weapon to be used to sow discord."
11:07 (1645) Mace: (( The high for today is going to be 60. ))
11:07 (1654) Natrix: (nice)
11:07 (1654) Natrix: (shorts and a t shirt weather)
11:07 ** (1613) Zeke thinks he dislikes the hobgoblin **
11:07 (1654) Natrix: "Indeed."
11:08 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "He was probably the most expendable, but even the lowliest apprentice still represents a great investment in time and... aha!" Talakis' hand comes out with an ether crystal.
11:08 ** (1645) Mace thinks he's dispatched quite a few hobgoblins like this one in his line of work. **
11:08 (1645) Mace: (( I don't wanna know where it was hidden. ;) ))
11:08 (1653) Tusken: (in his ass)
11:08 (1654) Natrix: (was the apprentice cute?)
11:08 (1645) Mace: (( Well, it was just art doing a cameo. ))
11:08 (1645) Mace: (( So probably. ))
11:09 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "This is very fortunate, for it most certainly holds a spell of teleportation."
11:09 (1654) Natrix: Natrix eyes him. "I did not know you had a knowledge of magic"
11:10 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "It is a very common practice for the Church to send apprentices on dangerous tasks but give them ether crystals holding spells of recall, and they always lead to the same place, fortunately for us."
11:10 (1654) Natrix: hmmmm
11:11 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "You see, the Gem of Light and Sound belongs at the end of a very special staff, one which is currently in the possession of our Church friends. It is very difficult to break into the grounds of their main temple, unless you have an invitation." He smiles and indicates the crystal.
11:11 (1637) Silva: "Where is that?" Silva asks, breaking into the conversation for the first time.
11:12 (1654) Natrix: "I see..."
11:12 (1645) Mace: Do we have to activated it to find out?
11:12 (1645) Mace: *activate
11:12 (1654) Natrix: "the temple... a deathtrap if we fail...."
11:13 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Yes. It is indeed a very dangerous place, although not so much if you take care to avoid the more powerful magicians."
11:13 (1654) Natrix: (mmm and my neighbor hasnt woken up yet...)
11:14 (1645) Mace: (( You could give him a special wake up call. ;) ))
11:15 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Most of the ones there will be mundane guards and students. The journeymen do not reside at the main temple, but are scattered around the city in the guard, in the army, and other places. The temple holds only the least and most powerful of them, and only the latter will be able to see through the effect provided by the Gem.
11:16 ** (1654) Natrix does not like this **
11:16 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Talakis speech is punctuated by the sounds of the hobgoblin sharpening his axe.
11:16 (1654) Natrix: "where do you get your minions?"
11:16 ** (1613) Zeke definatly does not like this. Doubly so with the Hobgoblin standing around. **
11:16 (1654) Natrix: Natrix asked quizically
11:17 (1654) Natrix: (is it just me, or is that hobgoblin threatening us?)
11:17 (1645) Mace: (( He's something at us, anyway. ))
11:18 (1637) Silva: (What is the floor we are standing on made of?)
11:18 ** (1613) Zeke is looking like a cat faced with a nasty rival right now. **
11:18 (1654) Natrix: Lore check on the staff and the gem, and all that happy fun stuff [1d10+17] -> [9,17] = (26)
11:19 (1637) Silva: (And are we on the ground floor, or above?)
11:19 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Talakis chuckles. "Do not be put off by Samson's demeanor. He is a loyal and effective member of the resistance."
11:19 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (Wooden floorboards on the ground floor)
11:19 (1653) Tusken: (so Zeke is all fuzzed up? That's a funny image.)
11:19 (1613) Zeke: (( He's a cat on the edge! ))
11:20 ** (1645) Mace ((reaches over to scratch Zeke behind a fuzzy ear)) **
11:22 (1613) Zeke: "So what happens if we choose to not go?" Zeke states, seemingly about to hiss his displeasure at the situation at any moment.
11:22 (1645) Mace: (( Don't forget to spit! ))
11:22 (1654) Natrix: "or perhaps if we want to do a bit of research of our own"
11:23 (1637) Silva: (About how much damage would be required to destroy the floorboards to get to the ground?)
11:23 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (The Gem has always been rumored in knowledgeable circles to have once been at the head of a staff, although the precise staff was never mentioned. The only important staff at the main temple that would fit the bill is the Sceptre of St. Oman, but it was never thought to have any magical properties.)
11:24 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (Not very much, the wood is semi-rotted. About 10 points should do it.)
11:24 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Talakis frowns. "Well, then I suppose I'll have to find someone else. But it will have to be tonight. Once they realise their apprentice is dead, they'll prepare an ambush at the recall spot."
11:25 (1645) Mace: (( So this trek may not even be worth it? ))
11:27 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (Talakis seemed fairly certain that the staff he wanted was at the main temple.)
11:28 (1645) Mace: What will you do with the bounty we return with, Talakis?
11:28 (1654) Natrix: Natrix thinks, the only staff at the main temple which would fit is one which has no magical properties, unless Talakis knew more than he was letting on. A lot more. More than the books he had read on the subject.
11:28 (1654) Natrix: "And what are the properties of the staff you seek?
11:28 (1654) Natrix: "
11:28 (1645) Mace: (( I want to use Mace's lie detector thingie with the answer, if possible. ))
11:29 whispering to arthurtuxedo, [1d10 + 20] -> [6,20] = (26)
11:29 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (Go ahead and roll upon his answer then)
11:29 (1645) Mace: (( What is it I roll again? ))
11:29 (1613) Zeke: (( Zeke may as well join in. ))
11:29 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "There is a third piece that I have not yet been able to locate. All three are required."
11:30 (1613) Zeke: [1d10+10] -> [4,10] = (14) Empathy.
11:30 (1645) Mace: [1d10+15] -> [9,15] = (24)
11:30 (1645) Mace: (( Pending it uses empathy. ))
11:30 (1653) Tusken: (ooh, I've got empathy!) [1d10+15] -> [10,15] = (25)
11:30 (1645) Mace: (( OOoh. ))
11:30 (1613) Zeke: (( Thats more like it! ))
11:30 (1653) Tusken: [1d10+25] -> [5,25] = (30)
11:30 (1637) Silva: (Wow.)
11:31 (1653) Tusken: (err, scratch that, should be just +10, not 15)
11:31 (1654) Natrix: (still...25 is nice)
11:31 (1653) Tusken: (but the result is still 25)
11:31 (1646) arthurtuxedo: To Natrix he replies, "The staff itself has no magical properties that I know of, but it is required for the complete item to function properly."
11:31 (1654) Natrix: "And what is the third item?"
11:32 (1645) Mace: (( The heart of an orphan. ))
11:32 whispering to Zeke, Tusken, Mace, Talakis is completely unreadable.
11:33 ** (1645) Mace thinks Talakis is a conniving little unreadable bitch. **
11:33 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "I don't know yet. But I'm certain the Church does not know either."
11:33 (1653) Tusken: (Indeed)
11:33 (1654) Natrix: Lore: [1d10+17] -> [4,17] = (21)
11:33 ** (1645) Mace gives Talakis a mistrustful look. **
11:33 (1645) Mace: What are you hiding from us?
11:35 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Talakis smiles slyly. "I am most certainly hiding a great many things from you, but not regarding this matter."
11:35 (1645) Mace: I might find it difficult to put my life on the line for a cause that isn't what it seems.
11:36 (1654) Natrix: "Indeed. It is a simple risk to benefit analysis. We need to be able to make an informed choice, which we cannot do in this instance"
11:37 ** (1613) Zeke flicks an ear. A nasty idea has crossed his mind. It all seems so convinient, again. **
11:38 (1613) Zeke: "Very convinient that a churchman shows up just in time for us to use his crystal..."
11:39 (1637) Silva: Silva is disliking this conversation more and more as it goes on. It might be time to leave soon, if it keeps going on like this.
11:39 (1613) Zeke: "So very convinient that we ran into each other back at the prison..."
11:39 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Talakis sighs. "After your exemplary performance retrieving the Gem, I had planned to put your in more trusted and delicate assignments. But if you do not wish to be included, then I cannot force you. If you change your mind, come to the inn where we originally met. But do not tarry, for in one hour we shall use the teleport spell. If there is nothing else?"
11:40 (1654) Natrix: "No... We need to discuss the matter among ourselves before we make a decision"
11:40 ** (1645) Mace nods. **
11:41 (1654) Natrix: "But before you go. DO you know what item it is that you are trying to create?"
11:42 (1645) Mace: (( I need to go make some tea...and find where the lung I just coughed up ran off to. Brb. ))
11:45 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "If I'm correct, it should possess great offensive and healing powers."
11:45 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Perhaps enough to topple this rulership once and for all."
11:46 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Hope to see you before the hour is passed."
11:46 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Talakis and his bodyguard suddenly disappear into thin air.
11:46 (1654) Natrix: Lore: what items do I know of that meet the parameters: [1d10+17] -> [3,17] = (20)
11:47 (1637) Silva: Silva begins casting a spell. (1 minute.)
11:47 whispering to Natrix, You can't think of any off the top of your head, but after a few seconds the ancient Donburo cave paintings pop into your head. Reproductions of these paintings exist in the main library.
11:48 (1654) Natrix: "I need to get to the library"
11:48 (1613) Zeke: "I am not going. Too many coincidences. And it all seems so easy. Just one item and down the whole house of cards falls."
11:48 (1613) Zeke: "I fear a trap."
11:48 (1645) Mace: I do as well.
11:49 (1654) Natrix: "I dontfear what he will do immediatly, it is what he is after that concerns me. he has no reason to trap us now, he still needs us. But lets go to the library, I have an idea"
11:49 (1654) Natrix: The mage scuttles out the door
11:49 ** (1645) Mace sees no harm in following Natrix and does. **
11:50 (1613) Zeke: 'Or worse. Replacing one set of nasty people with another, more powerful set.' Zeke thinks
11:50 (1653) Tusken: "But by using the gem to retrieve the staff, we're then holding all the cards. Save for the third item, of course. Talakis would need us more than we would need him at that point."
11:50 (1613) Zeke: "If the item works."
11:50 (1613) Zeke: "If it ain't just a lie"
11:50 (1654) Natrix: "The staff itself is not, as far as I know, magical... It is the other two items..."
11:51 (1654) Natrix: "or rather, it is magical, just not on its own"
11:51 (1613) Zeke: "If this isn't a wild goose chase set up by the theocrats."
11:51 (1637) Silva: "I am not going either. This is too coincidental."
11:51 (1654) Natrix: the mage continues to head toward the libary
11:51 (1654) Natrix: library as he talks
11:54 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The streets are full of layabouts and criminals during the day in this part of town, but the group has too many members, and so no one messes with them. Passing into the central part of the city, the foot traffic increases and becomes composed of more respectable types. After about 20 minutes, the group arrives at the steps of the Great Library.
11:54 (1654) Natrix: Natrix walks up the stairs
11:56 (1613) Zeke: "I always feel out of place in this part of town."
11:56 (1654) Natrix: "You get used to it..."
11:57 ** (1613) Zeke shrugs and heads up the steps after Natrix. Even if he's set on not going the warning from the dead churchman bears consideration. **
11:57 ** (1645) Mace follows. **
11:58 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Walking in, the security at the door looks displeased, but does not move to throw the group out. The library is supposed to be available for all, as long as they don't do anything wrong. They consign themselves to watching the group like hawks.
11:58 (1613) Zeke: "Where do we start?"
11:58 (1654) Natrix: Natrix seeks out the cave paintings
11:59 ** (1637) Silva follows the others. **
11:59 (1654) Natrix: "I need to find the Donburo cave paintins"
11:59 ** (1613) Zeke follows Natrix. He doesn't have any better ideas after all. **
11:59 ** (1653) Tusken stares down the guards. **
11:59 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Natrix knows this library like the back of his hand, and goes right to the appropriate section.
12:00 (1613) Zeke: "Just one question. What does those cave paintings have to do with the staff?"
12:01 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Those who have never been to the Great Library before might be somewhat awed. It is the largest collection of books in the known world, and probably represents a significant portion of the world's knowledge. Shelf after shelf, row after row of thick books continue for what seems like forever.
12:01 (1654) Natrix: "They may have to do with the item he is trying to create"
12:01 (1654) Natrix: "remember what the churchman said. Power over life and death"
12:01 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (It's like the Library at Alexandria for a real world example)
12:01 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (Or the Library of Congress today)
12:01 (1654) Natrix: "If that is tre, no one should ever recreate it"
12:01 (1654) Natrix: true
12:01 (1645) Mace: (( I was going to say Alexandria...except still standing. ))
12:03 ** (1613) Zeke shrugs. "I never was all that interested about that sort of stuff, so I don't really know the link. I do agree with you, though." **
12:03 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Natrix finds the book he's looking for. "Reproductions of prehistoric artworks." It's a huge volume, taller and wider than most books, as well as thicker. Its binding and pages feel as heavy as stone.
12:04 (1654) Natrix: Natrix opens it up and find the appropriate pages
12:05 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Natrix finds the appropriate paintings, and remembers why it occured to him.
12:05 (1654) Natrix: As he does so, he continues speaking. "Even if his motives are good and pure, power like that corrupts almost universally"
12:05 (1645) Mace: With great power comes great responsibility.
12:05 (1654) Natrix: "which people never have..."
12:05 (1646) arthurtuxedo: A series of paintings show a regal figure holding up a shining staff.
12:06 (1637) Silva: Silva agrees with him on this point. People are always corrupt, sooner, or later.
12:07 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The next one shows a great army being disintegrated by the man with the staff. In the right side of the painting, it shows the man seemingly raising the fallen of his own army from the grave.
12:07 (1654) Natrix: "sweet maker"
12:07 (1645) Mace: Looks like one of Silva's relatives.
12:07 (1654) Natrix: Natrix takes a closer look at the staff
12:08 (1613) Zeke: "If... If..."
12:08 (1613) Zeke: "Did anyone get the address of the drop point?"
12:08 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Then it shows the man using the staff on his own people, and sitting in a regal chair as the people toil. The last painting shows a man sticking a knife in the staff wielder's back to the cheers of the people below.
12:09 (1653) Tusken: "Wonderful."
12:09 (1654) Natrix: Lore: does this fit with what I know of the history of the gem, and staff [1d10+17] -> [1,17] = (18)
12:09 (1654) Natrix: action point
12:09 (1654) Natrix: [1d10+17] -> [10,17] = (27)
12:09 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Natrix studies the staff closely, but being a primitive cave painting, it's really just a line on the page with some light pigment to make it brighter.
12:09 (1637) Silva: Silva glares at Mace.
12:09 (1654) Natrix: [27+1d10] -> [27,4] = (31)
12:10 (1645) Mace: You have to admit you have a penchant for reanimation, my dear.
12:10 (1637) Silva: "Ah. I misunderstood."
12:11 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (You can use your Lore roll to find stuff out from the library, but it will take several days)
12:11 ** (1645) Mace smiles congenially. **
12:11 (1654) Natrix: (time I dont have... fuck)
12:11 (1654) Natrix: (what if I find someone smarter than me?)
12:12 (1645) Mace: (( Someone who specalizes in this sort of thing? ))
12:12 (1654) Natrix: (yep... there is bound to be people who study this stuff IN the library)
12:13 (1645) Mace: (( Look for another art cameo. ;) ))
12:13 (1613) Zeke: "Gods. If this is true... If this could be true, then we'd better not go."
12:13 (1645) Mace: (( My cat is destroying my venetian blinds...brb. ))
12:13 (1654) Natrix: "We better stop him if this is true"
12:14 ** (1613) Zeke mutely nods **
12:15 (1645) Mace: All we need is to gain one part of the three and destroy it.
12:15 (1637) Silva: "Yes."
12:15 (1654) Natrix: Natrix doesnt know enough about the staff or the items to be sure, but tries to think if he rememebers anyone who does, who may be in the library
12:16 (1613) Zeke: "Then maybe we should go..."
12:16 (1613) Zeke: "Seize the opportunity, if we still can."
12:17 (1653) Tusken: "If we don't, someone else will."
12:18 (1613) Zeke: "I can no longer truely trust those who would seek to use such an item"
12:18 (1654) Natrix: "Indeed. In fact, I dont even trust myself with part of that item"
12:19 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Natrix recalls that one of the workers seemed to be quite the expert on prehistoric cultures.
12:19 (1654) Natrix: Natrix goes to find him/her/it
12:19 ** (1613) Zeke follows. **
12:20 (1654) Natrix: "I am a moral degenerate, I cant be trusted with that power"
12:20 (1645) Mace: I have no desire for power.
12:21 (1645) Mace: I can destroy it with little issue.
12:21 (1645) Mace: And you, if need be.
12:21 (1654) Natrix: "good"
12:21 ** (1613) Zeke almost stumbles at Natrix's statement **
12:22 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Natrix finds the man in question, an elderly gentleman sorting books.
12:22 (1653) Tusken: "And I have no desire to see people freed from tyranny, only to be ruled by a different tyrant."
12:22 (1654) Natrix: Natrix calms down a bit
12:22 (1654) Natrix: "Sir, I need to ask you something of grave import. Are you familiar with the Donburo Cave Paintings?"
12:23 (1637) Silva: Figuring she'd better give her reasons to the group so they know she won't want it, Silva tells them. "I might enjoy it, but not the danger that would accompany it. I have little desire to be hounded day and night."
12:23 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The man looks up, at first warily, but then recognizes Natrix. "Of course," he replies.
12:24 (1654) Natrix: "Do you by chance no what the components of the staff depicted in it are? I would look it up, but I fear someone may be seeking to obtain the staff and will obtain the next component within the hour
12:24 (1654) Natrix: "
12:25 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Jakalla save us!" he says, shocked.
12:26 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Wait, you mean one component has already been found?"
12:26 (1654) Natrix: 'I need to be certain. Are two of them the Crystal of Light and Sound and the staff of st (what was it Omar?)"
12:26 (1654) Natrix: "If one is the crystal of light and sound, yes"
12:27 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "The Crystal is most certainly one of them, but I was not aware that anyone knew where it was."
12:28 (1654) Natrix: "this man did"
12:28 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "The Staff of St. Oman... hmm... yes that would make sense! It seems so obvious now."
12:28 (1654) Natrix: "Thank you.. that is the component he seeks to obtain."
12:29 (1654) Natrix: Natrix turns around to the others "Talakis needs to be stopped"
12:29 (1613) Zeke: "aye"
12:30 (1613) Zeke: "Though a bit more discression would have been nice."
12:30 (1654) Natrix: "I used just the right amount..."
12:31 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Thankfully, the old man does not seem to have heard. "That would explain why no one ever found the two pieces of the staff. They seperated the staff into two pieces not by breaking it physically, but by seperating it from its enchantment."
12:31 (1654) Natrix: "Isnt there a third piece?"
12:32 (1613) Zeke: "I'm glad someone had some sense" Zeke mutters.
12:32 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Yes! The third piece is the most important. The staff's enchantment. And there's only one place where you can put an enchantment."
12:32 (1654) Natrix: "And this is?"
12:32 (1613) Zeke: "Ether crystal, right?"
12:33 (1637) Silva: "A crystal." Silva mutters, wondering about the one Talkis had.
12:33 (1654) Natrix: 'Oh god... "
12:33 (1654) Natrix: "the crystal he carries isnt destroyed when the teleport spell is discharged"
12:33 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "Yes, yes, but not just any Ether Crystal, they wouldn't hold it."
12:34 (1654) Natrix: Natrix sighs
12:34 (1654) Natrix: "What does he need then?"
12:34 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "It would have to be placed into the bedrock from which the ether crystals grow."
12:34 (1645) Mace: Where's that?
12:34 (1654) Natrix: "Mt. Chaos..."
12:35 (1654) Natrix: "WHich any two bit mage can get to"
12:35 (1654) Natrix: "and I suspect he is more than a two bit mage"
12:35 (1646) arthurtuxedo: "If he can get the Cyrstal of Light and Sound with the Staff of St. Oman to Mount Chaos, he'll have the third piece."
12:36 (1645) Mace: Should we head him off at Mt. Chaos?
12:36 (1613) Zeke: "Can we make his deadline?"
12:36 (1654) Natrix: "Thank you for your help" Natrix bows
12:36 (1654) Natrix: "No, it will be too late by then"
12:36 (1654) Natrix: "we have to make his deadline?
12:36 (1654) Natrix: "
12:36 (1637) Silva: Silva looks at Mace as if he is slightly crazy.
12:37 (1654) Natrix: Natrix thanks the man again, and heads out of the library with all possible speed, without running
12:37 (1654) Natrix: as soon as he gets out, he will start running
12:37 ** (1645) Mace follows. **
12:37 (1653) Tusken: "I think we should proceed as if there is nothing amiss. Once we have the staff, we destroy it. Problem solved."
12:37 ** (1613) Zeke follows. **
12:38 ** (1637) Silva follows. **
12:38 (1613) Zeke: "Yeah, but first we gotta get the staff!"
12:38 (1654) Natrix: "Better idea, we proceed as if nothing is amiss, and when he gives us the crystal, both of them we destroy"
12:39 (1645) Mace: Sounds good.
12:40 (1613) Zeke: "Would be best if we offed him as well, I think."
12:40 (1654) Natrix: "Indeed"
12:41 (1645) Mace: And that hobgoblin.
12:42 (1613) Zeke: "Can't get one without the other... Hopefully
12:42 (1613) Zeke: "
12:43 (1654) Natrix: (You know, this is probably a good stopping point)
12:43 (1645) Mace: (( My cold agrees. ))
12:43 (1646) arthurtuxedo: (In a minute)
12:43 (1654) Natrix: (k)
12:44 (1653) Tusken: (he's got a devious plan cooked up)
12:44 (1646) arthurtuxedo: The group reaches the inn, and prepares to go in.
12:44 (1646) arthurtuxedo: * * * End Session 9 * * *
12:44 (1653) Tusken: Or not
12:44 (1654) Natrix: ahhhh
12:45 (1654) Natrix: well, I need to go get food before I go out into the desert tonight so...
12:45 (1654) Natrix: Um, it seems my afternoon plans have changed so I will not be making the villians session
12:45 (1645) Mace: I need to go lay down before I pass out. Wee! Bye guys!
12:45 (1645) Mace: Today you are MURDERFLIES!
12:45 (1645) Mace (exit): 12:45

12:46 (1653) gerardpaloma: Where's the XP?
12:47 (1654) Natrix: hehehe
12:47 (1646) arthurtuxedo: 20 XP. 15 from this session, and 5 bonus for getting away with no bloodshed last session. Running total 130.

12:47 (1646) arthurtuxedo: This campaign has gotten more interesting, I think. Don't know if you guys agree.
12:48 (1653) gerardpaloma: Yes
12:48 (1646) arthurtuxedo: Didn't know about this one for a while. At first I thought it was turning out to be a pretty sorry successor to the Apprentices one.
12:48 (1637) Silva: Yes.
12:48 (1653) gerardpaloma: Sort of an is the oppressor we know better than the oppressor we don't know kind of thing.
12:49 (1654) Natrix: well, I am off to get food before I go
12:49 (1613) Bill: Interesting as in both 'May you live in interesting times' and also the more conventional type.
12:49 (1654) Natrix: later folks
12:49 (1613) Bill: bye!
12:49 (1637) Silva: Bye.
12:49 (1646) arthurtuxedo: See you next week
